A winter tyre is designed for use below 7°C: deep siped block tread, usually with the 3 peak mountain snowflake symbol or the word Studded or Studless on the sidewall.
Only matters when the load indices on an axle differ by 3 or more: the manual still passes the pair if both tyres carry the same ply rating.
